We would like to congratulate Team Chicago-Atletico for winning the top flight of the boys U11 division of the Great Lakes Soccer Challenge this past weekend. This marks the second tournament win for Atletico this fall. This tournament drew teams from throughout the Midwest and offered Atletico the opportunity to face top teams from out of state clubs.

Once again, Atletico demonstrated remarkable resiliency in overcoming deficits in 3 of its 4 matches. After fighting back from a 0-2 score to win 7-2 against Galaxy SC in the opener, they responded again in next match against the West Michigan Storm with another come from behind 3-2 victory. On Sunday, Atletico punched their ticket for the Championship Match with a 3-1 defeat of Wisconsin’s Appleton SC. In final match against the also undefeated Quad City United Cannons of Iowa, Atletico was again down early but came away with the trophy with a 3-2 win on a dramatic goal in the closing minutes.

Under Coach Magno, Atletico is emerging as a very special team that plays a skillful yet tough style. They have demonstrated great team unity and a flair for the dramatic with each player stepping up in critical moments. Team Chicago looks forward to watching this group as they continue to grow and succeed.

Team Chicago Academy-Cruzeiro tri-captain Kerry Abello is currently participating in another U17 National Team Camp in preparation for the 2016 U17 Women’s World Cup qualification in March. Congrats to Kerry for her continued success with the U.S. National Team program.

The U.S. Under-17 Women’s National Team, under head coach B.J. Snow, will hold a training camp from Sept. 13-20 at the U.S. Soccer National Team Training Center in Carson, California. Snow has called up 26 players for the event, with 15 born in 1999, which is the age cut-off year for the 2016 U-17 Women’s World Cup. The other 11 players were born in 2000.

The U.S. U-17s are still six months away from qualifying for the next Women’s World Cup. The 2016 CONCACAF Under-17 Women’s Championship will be held on the Caribbean island of Grenada next March. The tournament will send three teams to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup to be played in Jordan in September of 2016.

The Under-17 Women’s Championship will feature eight teams, three from the Caribbean Football Union (CFU), two from the Central American Football Union (UNCAF) and three from North America.

Canada, Mexico and the United States are automatically qualified from North America, while the qualifying processes in CFU and UNCAF will take place in the coming months. As host country, Grenada is automatically qualified as one of the three representatives of CFU.

The eight teams will be drawn into two groups of four teams and after the group stage, the winner and second-place team from each group will cross-over for the semifinals. The winner of each semifinal match qualifies directly to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup while the winner of the third-place match also advances to the World Cup.

Congratulations to Team Chicago-Barca for winning the U11 Girls division in the Hawks Cup. It was a very solid team performance with 4 wins, scoring 34 goals and only conceding 2.

There were certainly highlight moments throughout the weekend, with great goals, nice passing and movement off the ball, awesome headers, tough defending and goalkeeping. The understanding of zonal-back-four defending is certainly growing, as well as creating and identifying goal scoring opportunities to shoot. Job well done by the girls!

Please join us in congratulating Barca on this accomplishment and wishing them good luck as they enter a challenging division in Fall league play.
